Graveyard Keeper 2 Sermons & Church Guide

The church is gated behind Jack's boat quest, sermons run once a week, and 10 Town Gratitude before preaching decides your Faith payout.

Start Faith early

Faith sits underneath a surprising amount of the game: studying items, buying Inspiration nodes, unlocking things and pushing parts of the main quest all cost it. The walkthrough that this guide follows admits it took hours to notice how much it mattered. Faith is not a late-game resource — the sooner it has a steady source, the cheaper everything else becomes.

Unlocking the church: Jack's boat line

The temple — and with it the sermon system — is gated behind Jack's quest line:

  1. After escaping the infected starting area and reaching your new base, head south of the village to find the two brothers, with Jack arguing beside them.
  2. Jack later shows up at your house to start "Jack in a Boat". He wants 5 wooden planks and 5 bronze details for the boat, plus someone to row it.
  3. Progress the twins' quests (Jeffrey and Heffrey) in parallel so the rower requirement is covered.
  4. Days after Jack sails, a letter and a nun arrive in the village. Talk to her at the tavern and the line finally hands you the temple.

One sermon per week, and it pays Faith

With the temple open you can preach once per week. That weekly sermon is the primary Faith source — reliable precisely because, unlike scattered study or quest rewards, you can schedule it. The Faith goes straight back out into studying, Inspiration, unlocks and quests.

Have 10 Gratitude before you preach

The concrete advice from the source walkthrough: hold at least 10 Town Gratitude before a sermon. More Gratitude means more attendees, and attendance is what decides how much Faith and money the sermon returns. Gratitude is not a standalone currency — it is the attendance switch for the sermon. See the Town Gratitude guide for the full economy.

Where Gratitude comes from

  • Quests and newly unlocked dialogue hand out Gratitude as you play.
  • Januarius sells it, but the walkthrough calls that pretty expensive.
  • Weekly merchant trades are the cheaper route: on a merchant's trade screen (the walkthrough uses Horadric), some goods carry a thumbs-up icon and a required amount. Selling that amount once a week pays Gratitude — for example, 30 wheat plus 30 carrots for four Gratitude, with the silver from the sale on top. The maximum the vendor will pay this week is shown above the trade menu.

Faith also buys fast travel

Another use worth budgeting for: fast-travel milestones cost Faith to unlock, and the farther one sits from your base, the more it usually costs. The starter advice is to open two points first — the village (for buying and handing in certificates) and the port area. Your own Inquisition base already has its point open for free.

Faith gates study and anatomy too

The same walkthrough keeps returning to Faith in its alchemy and autopsy sections: studying an ingredient needs Science and some ingredients also carry a Faith cost, and anatomy work feeds back into the same pool. Plan your weekly sermon around these sinks — spend the payout on study and Inspirations first, then save the rest for milestones. If a sermon seems to pay less than expected, check the Faith troubleshooting guide.
