Graveyard Keeper 2 Farming Guide
Farming is a closed loop of seeds, beds and harvests — learn the five bed tiers, planting costs, fertilizer types and where each crop goes.
How the loop runs
Farming is a closed cycle: seeds go into a bed, the bed grows them, and the harvest returns crops plus seeds, which then feed the millstone, brewing stand or kitchen.
- Get seeds. Three sources: buy from the merchant (your first batch comes from Herm — the story quest asks for 16–20), make them in a Seed Generator (one batch per 10 ticks; this build only has wheat, onion and cabbage versions), or recover them from your own harvest via the bed's seed yield plus Seed Master.
- Dig a bed. Five tiers exist, and digging beds is itself what advances the Gardener inspiration.
- Fertilize (optional). Fertilizer hangs on the bed as an effect, not a per-sowing consumable.
- Plant. Sowing costs 4 seeds by default (a "Thrifty farmer" buff reduces this), takes 4 ticks and 1 energy, and pays 1 green tech point.
- Wait. A bed starts at 120 ticks (2:00 on screen).
- Harvest. A ripe crop takes 4 hits at 1 energy each, pays green tech equal to the crop's quality requirement, and advances Earth Power I.
The five bed tiers
| Bed | Green talent required | Base quality | Growth cut | Fertilizer slots | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Garden Bed I | 1 | 1 | — | — | | Garden Bed II | 3 | 3 | −10 ticks | 1 | | Garden Bed III | 6 | 6 | −20 ticks | 2 | | Garden Bed IV | 10 | 10 | −30 ticks | 2 | | Garden Bed V | 14 | 14 | −40 ticks | 2 |
The number in each bed's name is the green (farming) talent it asks for. The Harvest Prayer's God of nature effect cuts another 20 ticks off growth on top of the tier bonus.
What you can grow
Each crop's seed grades are separate recipes with their own quality requirement, listed on the seed tooltip as "Required mastery". A bed below that number can't collect the full base yield; going above it grows more per tick — the higher your and the bed's green talent, the greater the harvest.
Wheat is the reference line: Wheat seed ×4 per planting, requirement 2, 4 ticks and 1 energy to plant, 120 ticks to grow. The harvest returns wheat (bed yield plus Farmer and Farmer II perks), wheat seed (bed yield plus Seed Master) and 2 leaves. Carrot follows the same pattern at requirement 4 with the same planting and growth costs. The recipes database lists every planting line.
Fertilizers
Nine fertilizers exist in three families: peat and Farming Fertilizers raise the bed's quality, Headstart fertilizers add growth progress, and Crop Boosting fertilizers add growth cells. How many you can stack is fixed by bed tier (0/1/2/2/2).
Where the harvest goes
Wheat becomes flour at the millstone (seeds become seed oil there too), hops become beer at the brewing stand, grapes become juice at the vine press then wine in the barrel, and vegetables become food in the kitchen. The processing recipes live on the milling, brewing and compost tables — see crafting and the automation guide for handing the loop to workers.
